How to Clean Vibrators and Sex Toys

Cleaning your sex toys and vibrators can be a simple task by following some important steps.

Almost all types of toys, including those with batteries and electrical parts, can be washed using warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner, and a soft cloth. Using condoms on your toys during use will help to keep them clean and stop them from gathering bacteria and other germs.

Any toy that uses batteries and has electrical parts can be cleaned with warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner and wiped down with a soft cloth, then allowed to air dry. Be sure to remove the batteries before washing and ensure that your toy is completely dry before reinserting.

Silicone - Silicone toys that do not use batteries or have electrical parts can be boiled in a pot of water for two to three minutes to clean.

Rubber and Latex - Use warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner and a soft cloth to clean. Avoid using abrasives to clean them as that can lead to scratching or tearing of toys which in turn allows them to pick up more germs, or ruin your toy altogether.

Plastic and Glass - Can be washed with warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner. Follow this by using rubbing alcohol to sterilize and allow to air dry. * Important note: Rinse very thoroughly after sterilizing to ensure the proper removal of chemicals.

Silicone, rubber, latex, plastic and glass toys that do not have batteries or electrical parts can be cleaned in your dishwasher. Do not use soap during the cycle and do not allow them to go through the hot air cycle. To avoid damaging your toys be sure they fit properly into the dishwasher and do not scrape along the top or sides.

Cyberskins - Cyberskins, other types of sleeves, and fake skins should be hand-washed with warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner and allowed to air dry.

Leather - Leather should be washed with a foaming cleanser and scrubbed with a brush. Rub down with hydrogen peroxide and allow it to air dry. Saddle soap or leather conditioner should then be applied to avoid stiffness and prolong the life of your product.

If any of your toys come in contact with blood: wash with warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner, then follow by washing it down with a solution made up of nine parts water and one part bleach. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all bleach residue.

If you have ultra-sensitive skin and can’t use antibacterial soaps or toy cleaners it would be best for you to use only silicone based toys as they’re hypoallergenic.

If you are unsure of what material your toy is made out of you can clean it with warm water, antibacterial soap or adult toy cleaner, and allow to air dry.

It’s important to remember that proper storage is as important as the cleaning process to keep bacteria and other germs from surfacing.
